Queensland Manufacturing Grants : Funding Opportunities for Business Growth
Queensland manufacturers looking to invest in advanced technology, improve productivity or expand their operations may have an opportunity to access government funding through the Transforming Queensland Manufacturing Grants Program.
Round 2 of the program is now open, with $12.5 million available to eligible manufacturing businesses. Grants between $100 000 and $1.5 million are available to support qualifying projects, with applications closing at 1:00pm on 25 November 2026.
The program forms part of a $79.1 million Queensland Government initiative supporting manufacturing innovation, competitiveness and job creation.
What is the Transforming Queensland Manufacturing Grants Program?
The program supports eligible Queensland manufacturing SMEs investing in advanced manufacturing equipment and technology to improve productivity and competitiveness. Eligible projects may include investments in robotics, automation, artificial intelligence systems for manufacturing processes and software that integrates or improves production systems. Projects must also align with at least one program objective, such as improving productivity, increasing competitiveness, creating jobs, developing export opportunities or bringing manufacturing activities back to Australia.
Who may be eligible?
The program is intended for established manufacturing businesses that meet specific eligibility requirements.
Applicants generally need to :
Have between 5 and 200 full time equivalent employees.
Derive the majority of their turnover from manufacturing
Have an established manufacturing presence in QLD, including at least five full time equivalent employees in the state
Have operated in QLD for at least three consecutive years
Hold an active ABN and be registered for GST
Demonstrate that they can fund and complete the proposed project
Eligibility depends on the business structure, project and detailed program requirements. Not every equipment purchase or upgrade will qualify.
How much funding is available?
Eligible businesses can apply for grants between $100 000 and $1.5 million, covering up to 50% of eligible project costs. For example, a qualifying project within $400 000 in eligible costs could potentially receive a $200 000 grant, leaving the business responsible for the remaining $200 000. The actual amount awarded with depend on the application and competitive assessment process. Businesses must also account for any project costs that are not eligible for grant funding.
Why financial planning matters
Securing a grant is only one part of planning a major business investment. Businesses need to consider how they will fund their contribution, manage project expenses and maintain sufficient working capital throughout the project. The program’s guidelines state that grant payments are generally made in arrears, although a conditional upfront payment may be available in certain circumstances. Applicants must demonstrate their financial capacity to complete the project and meet the program’s security requirements.
Before committing to an investment, businesses should review their cash flow, existing financial commitments and available funding sources. They should also confirm that their proposed funding arrangements are compatible with the grant conditions.
Consider your broader business finance needs
Government grants can help eligible businesses pursue investment opportunities, but they may not cover every project expense or resolve every funding requirement. Understanding your overall financial position can help you plan for your contribution, assess the affordability of a project and consider how the investment fits into your longer term business objectives.
Queensland Business Finance can help businesses explore suitable finance options for eligible business requirements, including asset finance for vehicles and equipment where appropriate.
Considering your next business investment?
Before committing to a project, take the time to understand the grant requirements, assess your funding needs and explore the options available for your circumstances.
